Louis Armstrong, the King of Queens The New York Times

The historic house tour requires the ability to climb two sets of steep stairs and stand for 45 minutes. New jazz and exhibition spaces, and an inaugural show curated by Jason Moran, feature the trumpeter’s history, collaged onto the walls. Shortly after marrying Louis, Lucille Wilson Armstrong was tipped off by a friend in her former Corona neighborhood that a house on the block was for sale, so inexpensive she could buy it with the money she’d saved as a Cotton Club dancer in Harlem. Still, Lucille waited eight months to tell her husband, who generally toured 300 days of the year.

This story is part of a group of stories called

The 20th century produced no shortage of legendary instrumentalists and vocalists but Louis Armstrong is the only figure who completely changed the way people played music on their instruments and he completely changed the way people sang. Perfecting the concept of the improvised solo, popularizing the use of scat singing, defining the concept of swing–those are just some of the ways Louis Armstrong changed jazz, and American popular music–during his lifetime. Please arrive 15 minutes early to secure your seat, as admission is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Jazz history comes to life in Corona

In 1983, his widow Lucille willed the building and its contents to New York City for the creation of a museum and study center devoted to Armstrong’s career and the history of jazz. Louis Armstrong was one of the most recognizable entertainers in the world when he chose the working-class neighborhood of Corona, Queens to be his home in 1943. We preserve Louis and Lucille’s home, now a historic site and world-class museum. We also provide access to Mr. Armstrong’s extensive archives, develop programs for the public that educate and inspire and host performances with multi-disciplinary artists from around the world. Also included at the Center is the new exhibition curated by Jason Moran, Here To Stay will look at Louis Armstrong’s five-decade career as an innovative musician, rigorous archivist, consummate collaborator, and community builder.

Louis Armstrong House Museum Celebrates 80 Years With New Building Opening in July

No one has resided in the building since then and its furnishings remain very much as they were. Today, the Museum is administered by Queens College, which also holds the research collections of the museum. Funds were awarded by the Office of the Governor, the New York State Senate, New York State Assembly, Office of the New York City Mayor, Office of the Queens Borough President, and the New York City Council. The Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY) led the construction project. The staff and board of the museum for the past 15 years, including former Director, Michael Cogswell, worked tirelessly to ensure the new building’s success. And yet for decades, the Louis Armstrong House Museum has been a well-kept secret on a quiet street in Corona.

The Armstrong Center

“Louis Armstrong is the greatest of all American virtuosos,” states Wynton Marsalis, President of the Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation and Managing and Artistic Director of Jazz at Lincoln Center. “With his trumpet and voice, Armstrong redefined what it meant to be modern by testifying to the range and depth of humanity from the vantage point of the bottom social strata in post-Reconstruction America. He was able to evoke deep blues and spiritual feeling, to dance notes with extreme rhythmic sophistication, and to improvise meaningful melodies on the spot with absolute harmonic accuracy. “There are airplanes in the background sometimes, and Louis commenting about being on the flight path.

Authors, researchers and other scholars can visit the Armstrong archives by advance appointment. The Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation was the baseline grantor of the Louis Armstrong House Museum and we have been in full support throughout the growth of this historic site. This great achievement is a physical representation of the down-home soulful world of Pops. LAHM is in the midst of a dramatic physical and programmatic transformation marked by the opening of the new Louis Armstrong Center, including a 75-seat performance space, a state of the art multimedia exhibition, and the Armstrong Archival Collections. The Center will allow us to live the Armstrong values of Artistic Excellence, Education and Community through programs such as Armstrong Now! After our tour concluded, we also learned about the forthcoming Louis Armstrong House Museum Education Center, which will sit on the site located across the street from the house museum.

In 1977, it was designated a National Historic Landmark and a New York City landmark. In 1991, recently retired director Michael Cogswell and archivists carried out 72 shipping cartons of Armstrong’s manuscripts, artifacts, and other memorabilia, currently housed in Flushing at the Kupferberg Center for the Arts. In 2017, the Louis Armstrong Education Center broke ground across the street from the house museum. The 14,000-square-foot, $23 million building is being designed by New York City-based Caples Jefferson Architects. When complete, it will include an exhibition gallery, a 68-seat jazz club, and, on the second floor, an archive for those artifacts.

Today, the house serves as a historic museum that presents concerts and educational programs. An archive of writings, recordings and memorabilia is also available to the public for research, bringing the history of jazz to life. Armstrong was both down-home and revolutionary and this building reflects that breadth. Caples Jefferson kept the building at the scale of the modest neighborhood that he loved, while creating an urban precinct for his music that welcomes in all visitors. One of the world’s most renowned jazz musicians and entertainers; Louis Armstrong lived in this modest Queens home from 1943 until his death in 1971.

Concerts, Trumpet Classes and Community Events

“In Here to Stay, we amplify Louis Armstrong’s ability to connect with communities locally and globally. His star shines bright worldwide, but especially here at his home in Corona, Queens. I consider this one of the ‘wonders’ of the world, meaning, we have Lucille and Louis’ magnificent home, and now a museum dedicated to his life and archive,” said Moran. The Center and the historic house will be open to the public Thursdays through Saturdays. Advance purchase is highly recommended as tours of the Center and the historic house have limited capacity.

To have these things for an African American musician of such stature is rare and will be celebrated forever." The jazz musician’s impeccably maintained home in a modest New York City neighborhood is a testament to his — and midcentury design’s — legacy. Before Lucille Armstrong died in 1983, she deeded the property to the city of New York with the intent of creating a lasting legacy for her husband.

The Louis Armstrong Archive, the world's largest for any single jazz musician, was established at Queens College in 1991. A dozen years later, the brick-faced home, already a registered landmark, opened to the public as the Louis Armstrong House Museum — a lovingly tended time capsule, and a humble but hallowed site of pilgrimage for fans from around the world. The Center, 25 years in development, includes exhibition, research and education areas, and, for events, a 75-seat performance space whose blond wood and intimacy recall Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, the Jazz at Lincoln Center venue. The new building also houses a 75-seat venue that will host performances, lectures, films, and educational experiences.

Standing on the shoulders of the jazz and community greats who have come before us, the new Louis Armstrong Center invites today’s musicians, neighbors, and global fans to discover Louis and Lucille Armstrong’s story from a new perspective. We will bring the Armstrongs’ unique archives alive through new interactive events. And we will ensure that music once again rings out on 107th Street through groundbreaking programs in collaboration with emerging artists and contemporary icons. Working with the museum’s Grammy-winning Director of Research Collections Ricky Riccardi and Executive Director Regina Bain, C&G Partners (MoMA, 9/11 Memorial & Museum, Smithsonian, NASA) designed the exhibition with Art Guild(Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Martin Guitar Museum). The 60,000 photos, recordings, manuscripts, letters & mementos in the Louis Armstrong Archive will be returning home to the block where the Armstrongs lived and built the collection. Caples Jefferson Architects designed the 14,000-square-foot building to expand the capacity of the historic house museum and to allow many more people to appreciate the legacy of Louis Armstrong, the man and his music.

Louis died in 1971, days after celebrating his 71st birthday at a party in the garden lot adjacent to their home. After Lucille’s death in 1983, the last true original-original died in 2011. Selma Heraldo had lived all her 88 years next door to what would become the Armstrongs’ home and was the neighborhood’s last human link to them both.

The longtime residence of the famed jazz trumpeter, singer and bandleader, it is a midcentury interior design treasure hidden behind a modest brick exterior. Some modifications were functional, like the “stair chair,” a wheelchair lift installed after Louis suffered a third heart attack at the Waldorf Astoria; some were pure fancy, like the silver-walled walk-in closet where a Pucci dress owned by Lucille still hangs. Mostly, though, it was a regular-folks respite for the internationally revered performer. The Louis Armstrong Center was a brainchild of Michael Cogswell, the founding Executive Director of the House Museum, who died in 2020.

The museum, a version of the house preserved much as it was when Lucille and Louis were alive, is administered by Queens College. The Center is the permanent home for the 60,000-piece archive of Louis and Lucille Armstrong, and it houses a 75-seat venue offering performances, lectures, films, and educational experiences. The Armstrong Center (which includes the welcome desk, museum store, exhibit area, restroom, and performance space) and the Garden of the Museum are wheelchair-accessible.

His wife, Lucille, continued to live in their home on 107th Street in Corona, Queens, working to ensure that it became a National and New York Historic Landmark. Lucille expressed the desire for the home and archives to become a museum honoring her husband. They established the Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation (LAEF) which helped to facilitate this process and continues to work today as a force for jazz education. After Lucille’s passing in 1983, she willed the home and its contents to the city of New York which designated the City University of New York, Queens College to shepherd the process. It took decades, but the archives became accessible in the 90’s, and the historic house opened for public tours in 2003. The Louis Armstrong House Museum (LAHM) became its own entity, with its expanded programs and official 501c3 non-profit status in 2008.

For those eager to delve deeper into LAHM’s cultural offerings, guided tours are available starting at 1pm, with the last tour departing at 5pm. This National Historic Landmark museum welcomes its new addition across the street during Black Music Month and the 80th anniversary of Louis and Lucille Armstrong moving to the legendary jazz trumpeter & singer’s restored home. Visitors have included Wynton Marsalis, Quincy Jones, Tony Bennett, Charlie Watts, Ken Burns, Jon Batiste, Ron Howard, Bette Midler and many more.

A longtime neighbor suffered a heart attack over the weekend—Tomas Tavarez, an older Dominican-American man whom I’d noticed watching the music from his porch just a week earlier. The house is a gem frozen in time, as if the Armstrongs have just stepped out. The museum offers daily guided tours to visitors from around the world and features a variety of programs, including concerts, lectures, and seminars. Recently, we were invited to take part in a house tour, which took us through the Armstrongs’ living room, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and den (deemed Louis’ “man cave”). From the moment we stepped inside, it was evident that Armstrong’s essence completely saturates the house. Strolling through each room slowly, we were given the unique opportunity to see how he lived and where his genius was fostered.

Louis Armstrong is a definitive arbiter of Jazz and America’s first Black popular music icon, entertaining millions from heads of state and royalty to the kids on his stoop in the working-class neighborhood of Corona, Queens. The Louis Armstrong House Museum preserves his legacy by offering guided tours of the historic home and preserving Armstrong’s 60,000-piece archives. The brand-new Louis Armstrong Center, located across the street from the historic home, will further help celebrate his legacy by offering year-round exhibitions, performances, readings, lectures, and screenings through an array of public programs for all ages. It now includes the home itself that reflects the personal values of Louis Armstrong and the garden that serves as a place for gatherings and a place for live performances. The Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation donated the Armstrong archives in the 1980s and provided the funds to purchase the lot on which the new Center sits. CUNY and Queens College officials, working with state and city legislators and executive offices, led the advocacy for the funding of the $26 million building across the street from the original Armstrong home.

Among its steadfast champions was the museum's former Board chair, philanthropist Jerome Chazen, who died last year. That their dream finally came to fruition, after more than two decades of hopeful planning, is a testament to the strength of that vision — and the efforts of those who carried it forward. "We're thankful for the community that raised us up," says Regina Bain, Executive Director of the House Museum. "It's all in the spirit of Louis and Lucille — because they made such an impact on this community, and on this block, that people wanted to fight for this space." Perhaps most touching is Armstrong’s pure and undying affinity for his neighborhood. While Corona may seem like an unlikely place to house a museum, no other location would be appropriate to honor Armstrong’s legacy.

Those are the times I feel closest to him, like he’s right there on the block,” Riccardi said. “You can hear street noise, birds outside the window, hear kids playing in the street.” It started to sound like the verse of a very familiar song. The day before the block party, workers halted construction on the forthcoming Louis Armstrong House Museum Research Collections to place a hard hat atop the head of Wynton Marsalis, who was filming a segment for ESPN. Recently Tony Bennett, who in 1970 painted the remarkable portrait of Armstrong displayed in his second-floor study—signed Benedetto—came by to borrow the painting for an exhibit.

Headed by the same architecture firm who built the Louis Armstrong house in 1910, the project broke ground this summer and will include a state-of-the-art exhibition gallery and a 68-seat jazz club when completed. Today, the internationally renowned Louis Armstrong House Museum in Corona, Queens, announced the official opening date of its new state-of-the-art building, preserving and expanding the legacy and ideals of America’s first Black popular music icon. Armstrong’s values of Artistic Excellence, Education and Community will be fostered in Here to Stay, the new Center’s exhibition, curated by award-winning pianist, composer and Kennedy Center Artistic Director for Jazz, Jason Moran. One wouldn’t know from the sidewalk that the interior of the house is a more or less perfect reflection of the Armstrongs’ life circa 1969, when Lucille made her final round of renovations during her husband’s lifetime with the help of her interior decorator, Morris Grossberg. Armstrong’s half-empty bottle of Lanvin cologne still sits on the dresser in the master bedroom; their old Electrolux vacuum cleaner is still stashed in a hallway closet.

Designed by Caples Jefferson Architects, the two-story building comprises 14,000 square feet and sits between two single-family homes. The massing of the structure resembles a giant piano and features an undulating glass façade with black ornamental fins, a large metal canopy above a second-floor terrace, and a green roof with modest landscaping. Ticketing and information about all of the Louis Armstong Museum’s events and programs can be found here. On a late summer night in Corona, Queens, approaching 107th Street between 34th and 37th avenues, a Chinese-American woman in purple scrubs dances her way around the corner, a little sideways strut, making an entrance into the Louis Armstrong House Museum’s annual block party. On a sidewalk stage, when Roland Guerrero, leader of an eponymous quartet, proudly references his Honduran Garifuna heritage (which includes African, Caribbean, Central American, and European roots), the crowd applauds.

Visiting Louis Armstrong’s ‘Wonderful World’

Caples Jefferson Architects designed the 14,000-square-foot building, staying mindful of the Armstrongs’ love for their community and their neighbors on the block. Heraldo’s home is a time capsule too, currently serving as office space for museum staff, and, during the summer jazz concerts and block party, a green room for the band. Louis called her “Little Dynamite” even though, at 5 feet 6 inches, he was not much taller than she; the museum programmers relied on her for public speaking and impromptu recollections. Open to the public since fall 2003, the Louis Armstrong House Museum is an exuberantly decorated time capsule, a window into the down-to-earth life of an artist, a pivotal period of music history. It is also both a portal to a neighborhood’s past and a link to its future. The Museum also recently launched an outreach program to local schools, providing trumpet lessons, made possible by a donation of musical instruments from Ken Karnofsky, a descendant of the same family who helped Armstrong buy his first instrument. Ticketing and information about all of the museum’s events and programs can be found at here.

This was Louis’s “man cave,” a room where he could write letters, make reel-to-reel tapes and entertain friends and guests, including Queens neighbors Dizzy Gillespie and Clark Terry. Even more valuable is the treasure trove of information that we didn’t expect to come away with. We learned, for instance, that Lucille had a knack for decorating (evidenced by the house’s reflective wall paper, its laminated wooden cabinets and the funky blue hue of the kitchen), and that Louis Armstrong swore by Swiss Kriss laxatives, which he used daily.

Their new suburban block was home to African-American, German, and Italian working-class families, and Armstrong was delighted. Raised in one of the poorest neighborhoods in New Orleans, he felt instantly at home in Corona. Following Louis Armstrong’s death in 1971, Lucille spent 12 years as a widow in the same house. When she passed away in 1983, she left everything to the Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation, Inc. and the house to the City of New York.

Since 2003, this National Historic Landmark has been open to the public weekly for individual and group tours with support provided by the Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation, NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, Queens College/CUNY, and other lead donors and partners. Louis Armstrong was already a worldwide star — a seasoned headliner with a Hollywood profile — when his wife, Lucille, surprised him with the purchase of a modest house in Corona, Queens, in 1943. He got his first glimpse of the place fresh off tour, rolling up in a taxicab. (He invited the cab driver to come in and check it out with him.) "The more Lucille showed me around the house the more thrill'd I got," Armstrong later wrote. Discover the city’s most unique and surprising places and events for the curious mind.

The museum is also announcing the upcoming season of its Armstrong Now performance series, which will feature the creation and debut of new works by Esperanza Spalding, Amyra León, and Antonio Brown. A week after the museum’s block party, the stretch of 107th Street appeared more like a church Sunday than the Friday before Labor Day. Junior Armstead stopped me to say hello; he’d changed out of his work clothes into a navy blue dress shirt and several of his signature custom-made rings.

No two rooms are alike — “I guess ‘Rococo’ is the word I could use without losing my job,” Harris said of the overall aesthetic — though many are surprisingly modest, especially given Armstrong’s larger-than-life presence. He is the only person ever to have hit records in the ’20s, ’30s, ’40s, ’50s and ’60s. He played behind the Iron Curtain during the Cold War and in the Democratic Republic of Congo during decolonization in 1960, during which both sides of a civil war called a truce to watch him perform, then picked up fighting again once his plane took off. The gold sconces offer a glimmer of opulence, but the walls themselves are covered in a subdued, cream-colored wallpaper — the same wallpaper that covered them at least 50 years ago. It matches the upright piano standing against one wall, and the two twill couches. There’s also a small TV — one of the first on the block — that sits low to the floor, so that the neighborhood children whom Armstrong would invite over (he never had kids of his own) could sit comfortably on the floor to watch Westerns.

LAHM administers the historic house under a long-term license agreement with the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and Queens College. The house where jazz legend Louis Armstrong lived and died is now a tribute to his life and legacy. The Louis Armstrong House Museum, still furnished as it was when Louis and his wife Lucille lived there, lets viewers peek into the intimate life of the couple, while its collection pays tribute to his public accomplishments and contributions to the world of jazz. The world`s most famous jazz musician could have lived anywhere, but in 1943, he settled in a modest house in Corona, Queens where he and his wife lived for the remainder of their lives. Bessie “Baby Ruth” Williams, Lucille’s housekeeper since 1973, continued to clean and preserve the house, eventually serving as the museum’s first caretaker and manager.

This includes in-wall ceiling speakers, on-wall speakers and outdoor speakers. The speakers indoors will become invisible saving space and giving a clean look. If you are wondering why there are only 4 speaker sets in a 6-zone amplifier, bear with me. To complete the 2 other speaker set connections, you need a Nile SI-1230 amplifier Nile SI-1230 amplifier . The next image shows a setup for connecting different audio sources. Let’s have a look on how we can use different amplifiers to build a wired whole house audio system.

It has a full, clear sound with surprisingly strong bass for its size, and its operation couldn’t be simpler. Plus, the Klipsch speaker’s handsome, retro design should make it a welcome addition to practically any room. Is all about comparative testing, listening to one set of speakers up against the next, to figure out exactly how they differ and what each one does best. We keep class-leading products in our stockrooms so we can compare new products to ones we know and love. The speakers bristle with raw energy, and the stereo imaging is completely on-point.

This Niles MRC640 is a multi-zone speaker controller that you can use to connect up to 6 zones. It uses Auriel Ecosystem that has remote, pre-programmed keypad, touch panel and mobile apps to control the device. It has features like Whole House mode, All Zone off and Paging. By ‘medium’ we mean the device that will help you to connect multiple speakers throughout the house. It can be a number of different devices that we are going to discuss here.

The Best Multiroom Wireless Speaker System

They do all this without wires – apart from a power cable – so they won't leave your home looking like the end of Superman III. They don't require controllers either – you do it all from an app on your phone. And they connect over your home wi-fi network, making it a doddle to stream and share music. Denon’s HEOS system offers a number of speakers in a variety of sizes, and Denon has built HEOS support into all of its new receivers, as well. But at this point no other companies—aside from Marantz, which is part of Denon’s parent company—have adopted HEOS. And the platform supports only a limited number of streaming services.

These speakers are covered by magnetic grille that are easy to remove or attach. They are easy to install and paintable to match any room décor. Use them in kitchen, bathroom and living room for multiroom audio system. Floorstanding speakers are often said to sound better than bookshelf speakers. These are best for large rooms and Klipsch R-820F is worth a try. Along with a Tractrix horn on the front, you will also notice a Tractrix horn shaped opening on the back.

Great Sound on a Small Budget

The tweaks might not have been extensive, but they make a noticeable difference when you fire your Mu-so Qb up and really let it loose. Treble response is lively and open, with a satisfyingly meaty bass delivered with punch, precision and panache. The second generation also improves markedly on its predecessor’s timing and dynamic range, thriving when delivering snappy rhythmic patterns and sparky numbers. Yet still, it was quite the surprise when first we heard about one made by Naim with its second generation of the Mu-so Qb wireless speaker. The previous iteration was great, earning five stars when it was first reviewed.

We are happy to help you navigate our world of speakers, and make your life sound better. Multi-room audio is the best way to enjoy seamless sound regardless of your location in your house. Along with indoors, you can also connect outdoor speakers and place them in garden or patio. If you want clean look, in-ceiling and speakers are the best way.

The House can elect a new speaker at any time if the person occupying that role dies, resigns or is removed from office. Barring that, a speaker is normally elected at the start of a new Congress. It’s a journey the lawmaker from Bakersfield took once before in 2015, fruitlessly, facing the same opposition from the right flank of the party he is expected to meet this week. His first speakership run came when then-House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) resigned after an internal party battle with members of the ultra-conservative House Freedom Caucus.

In case you want a smaller setup, see the Pyle PSLSW4 4-ch speaker selector switch. The Niles SSVC-6 acts both as speaker selector and volume controller. While all 6 speaker pairs are running, your amplifier or receiver will be safe from overloading because the device uses impedance magnification. You can create multi-zone ceiling speaker system with Herdio 4” ceiling speakers.

You can cast services such as Qobuz directly to the Nest Audio speaker, but you can’t then send that audio around your home. The Google Home app makes it easy enough to add and remove speakers and zones, though Sonos is more intuitive and robust in this respect. Chromecast support opens up the list of compatible devices to lots of devices you may already own. Even though Google’s own speaker options are limited, you have many ways to build a multiroom-audio setup. For instance, we used the Nest Audio speaker along with an Nvidia Shield streaming media player in one room and a Vizio TV connected to an AV receiver in another. As for the Sonos soundbars, you can read more about their performance in our guide to the best soundbars.

However, we sometimes found that the bass was too pumped-up for our taste—not necessarily too loud, but unnaturally punchy. A warm-sounding acoustic double bass sometimes took on the thumpier quality of a bass guitar. Overall, we preferred the Morel Högtalare’s more natural, balanced presentation, but using the Klipsch Connect app to bring the bass down about 6 dB helped. Our listeners found that, of all the models we tested, the Högtalare sounded the closest to a good bookshelf speaker.

The clerk then appoints lawmakers from each party as tellers to tally the votes. Lawmakers call out the name of their choice for speaker from the floor, a rare and time-consuming roll call that heightens the drama. Members often liven up the proceedings by shouting or standing when casting their vote. The chamber cannot organize until it has a speaker since that person effectively serves as the House’s presiding officer and the institution’s administrative head.

Another factor to consider is the size of the home stereo system you want. If you want a system that you can take from room to room, then keep in mind that larger systems also tend to be a lot heavier. Likewise, if you have a space that doesn't have a ton of room for an extra couple of speakers and a subwoofer, then you'll want to downsize just a little bit. You can pick up a mini stereo that still packs a punch, no problem. No matter which way you slice it, sound quality is endlessly crucial for a home stereo system.

Special speakers from the kit are controlled with the keypad or remote. Once the wire runs were complete and the brackets and volume control boxes were in place, the drywall went up. And for the master bathroom, they chose a stereo input speaker — a space-saving way to get two-channel sound from a single speaker. After finalizing the blueprints for his house, Mark and his wife Brittany began planning their system.

If the device has volume knob for each zone, it will be easier for you to control them. When you want to use Bluetooth in more than one room at home, one of the best is Sonos One. As an option, you can buy multiple Sonos speaker and place them in different rooms. Then, with the Sonos app, you can link all of them together so that they play music through your whole house.

With the receiver set to the input source of the adapter (typically RCA, 3.5 mm audio cable, TOSLINK, or even HDMI), you can stream audio to any room(s) that have speakers wired up to the receiver. While it's possible to use multiple music adapters to send separate audio signals to different sets of speakers (i.e. for multi-zone and multi-source), it can end up more complicated than it's worth. Although these digital media adapters work well and are highly affordable, they're often not as robust in terms of features and connectivity like with control systems. If you don’t have a pre-wired home and if retrofit wiring is too much to consider, then you might want to go wireless. Wireless technology continues to make steady improvements, offering users a comprehensive experience that can also be reasonably easy to set up.

While some tabletop Bluetooth speakers do include mobile apps for control, none of them require you to load additional apps onto your phone the way Sonos, Alexa, and other Wi-Fi–based speakers do. This speaker has fewer features and connection options than our other picks. The only physical input is a 3.5 mm analog audio jack, and there’s no optional app with EQ controls to fine-tune the sound. Alongside sound quality, multi-room speaker systems are also tested for their various features, ease of set-up and use, including using voice assistants where included.

It's excellent for listening to music, watching movies or sports at home. If you want finely tuned high-powered sound at home for a great price point, this may be the system for you. Whether you're looking for a music system to stream your favorite bands or you want a theater-grade sound quality for your movies and shows, there are plenty of options for you to choose from.

Bluesound offers a similar choice of multi-room speakers and components. They use the BluOS operating system, which also comes built into a range of hi-fi integrated amps and receivers. Delaware Public Media and other news outlets reported that the bill was debated for hours, and Democrats later used a House rule to shut off what was termed a filibuster by those opposed to it. One House Democrat whose district includes Kent General Bayhealth hospital was upset that he did not get time to speak. It also includes legislation that would ban the video app TikTok if it’s China-based owner, ByteDance, does not sell it.

"We wanted volume controls in case the internet ever went out," he said. Mark chose a single 12-channel AudioSource amp that could direct power to all six of his in-ceiling and outdoor speaker locations. For the back patio and out front by the garage, they chose two pairs of Polk Atrium6 outdoor speakers. "I like them because they have big woofers for more punch," Mark said of his outdoor speakers, adding that it's great to have tunes pumping by the basketball court and out back. You probably already own some equipment, such as stereo speakers and a quality home theater receiver. The next step is to plan what your multi-room system will look like before expanding and harnessing features to cover additional areas.

Many of these speaker systems use WiFi and/or Bluetooth – some can feature additional wired connections – and often come with mobile apps designed for convenient control through smartphones and tablets. It ends up being fairly simple to add and configure additional speakers. So unlike wired speakers that are brand/type agnostic, you can't simply mix and match wireless speakers and achieve the same seamless results.

An electrician’s fish tape ($12 to $15) is handy for pulling wires through the walls (Photo 4). Installing a universal input module before the keypad in any room allows you to use the keypad and speakers as a single-room stereo system. Just plug your iPod, MP3 player, portable radio or computer into the RCA jacks on the module and it’ll play through the speakers. Install the universal input module in a convenient location, near the computer for example.

Run the Cat-5e cable from the panel distribution module to the universal input module first. Then run a Cat-5e cable from the universal input module to the keypad. The distribution hub divides the signal from the audio source module into outputs, in this case for four rooms. Run a Cat-5e cable from an output to the amplified keypad in each room. A transformer plugs into the distribution hub and provides low-voltage power through the Cat-5e cable to the keypad amplifiers. There's a lot to consider when shopping for whole-home audio gear.

It comes with everything you need to start streaming your favorite music or watching ultra-high-definition videos right in your living room. It has sound-sync wireless technology, so you can connect your device to the receiver via Wifi and Bluetooth. It also comes with two USB ports, allowing you to connect multiple devices at the same time. An included CD player will allow you to listen to some of your favorite high-school burnt CDs as well.

25 Things You Didn't Know About House House TV Show Hugh Laurie Facts

Playing House means Laurie is the only cast member to have appeared in every episode of the series. That earned the actor the world record of being the most watched leading man in television. It also reportedly earned him £250,000 (US$336,000) per episode by 2010.

Season 2 (2005–

Foreman hand-picked him hoping Cofield would give Gregory House the benefit of the doubt, which would most likely preserve Foreman's job as Dean of Medicine. Walter Cofield, MD, was the doctor assigned by Eric Foreman to investigate the incident involving the injury of Robert Chase in the Season 8 episode Nobody's Fault. Each U.S. network television season starts in September and ends in late May, which coincides with the completion of May sweeps. It's not a show about addiction, but you can't throw something like this into the mix and not expect it to be noticed and commented on. There have been references to the amount of his consumption increasing over time.

Wilson decides to leave PPTH and House has no luck finding new friends. However, when John House dies, Wilson promises House's mother that he will make sure House attends the funeral. Wilson has noted that this has led to a co-dependent relationship, with Wilson acting as an enabler. For example, Wilson has kept House well-supplied with Vicodin and often makes excuses for his behavior to get House out of trouble. For those who know both of them, they realize that Wilson will drop everything when House needs him. When Stacy (House's ex-girlfriend) eventually left House, it was Wilson who kept him going. However, Wilson is no pushover; he often challenges House over his behavior and is not above tricking him to show House that although he might be right about almost everything, that skill doesn't apply to his own behavior.

House is a total maverick and has stated that he frequents prostitutes. In one episode, his best friend Dr. Wilson states that House could have Asperger's Syndrome, but later tells House that he only wishes he had Asperger's so he could get away with more in life. Wilson has also told House that his obsession with solving cases has nothing to do with saving lives but that while "some doctors have a Messianic complex, House has a Rubik's complex", that is to say, he's more concerned with figuring out what is wrong with his patients than he is with saving their lives. This is shown when he sometimes tries to diagnose patients after they're dead, such as in the episode "97 Seconds".

We have to figure out ways to make up for the fact that patients buzz through the hospital, mostly staying three days or less, and residents spend less than 80 hours a week in the hospital. Eighty hours a week sounds like a lot, but while the hours have shrunk, the workload hasn't. House's willingness to take risks and experiment with his patients extends to his own health.

Romance and PPTH

However, House rejected the suggestion and instead suggested that he undergo a procedure to bypass circulation around the dead muscle. The result was intense pain during the healing process, with the muscle death leading to cardiac arrest, House was then put into a chemically induced coma. However, while House was comatose, Stacy, acting as his medical proxy, decided to go with Dr. Cuddy's suggestion to have the dead muscle surgically removed. Although this most likely saved House's life, it left him with permanent intense pain in his right leg. The wound on his leg still bears an obvious scar from where the muscle was removed and there is a divot in his skin where the muscle used to be.

House is emotionally damaged by the dysfunction in these primary relationships, citing his mother's dishonesty and his father's hostility as causes of his damaged personality. His colleagues have acknowledged that this is the source of House's deep-seated unhappiness, and cynicism; his fear of intimacy, praise, and the unknown; as well as his lack of acceptance regarding traditional societal values and rituals. As his father served on active duty through most of House's childhood and adolescence, House has lived in a variety of countries, such as Egypt, the Philippines and Japan.

Following a one night stand, however, House had learned he would not be re-admitted to Johns Hopkins and he would have to repeat his final year of medical school. As a result, he withdrew from his social life and ceased his pursuit of a formal relationship with Cuddy. House ultimately completed his internship and obtained residencies in pathology, nephrology, and infectious disease, in addition to his completion of a double specialty.

With his medical license on the line, House is desperate to get Darryl Nolan, his psychiatrist, to approve his return to practice. However, Dr. Nolan is just as desperate to get House to deal with his mental health issues. Eventually, House starts to trust Dr. Nolan and starts to improve enough to be released. After initially thinking of leaving diagnostic medicine to relieve his stress, House finds that medical mysteries are the only good way to deal with his pain and he starts trying to get his job back from Foreman, who has replaced him in the meantime. After getting his position back, he manages to convince Chase to stay on his team full-time and manages to hook back Taub and Hadley (Thirteen) as well. However, once Chase admits to Cameron his complicity in the death of a mass-murdering African dictator, she won't be wooed back and leaves House, her husband Chase, and PPTH.

In the season finale "Both Sides Now" it is confirmed that House wishes to pursue a romantic relationship with Cuddy. In this same episode he believes he has slept with Cuddy and informs Dr. James Wilson the following morning. This however is revealed to be a psychosis, which is a side effect of his Vicodin abuse. The season 6 finale "Help Me" shows that despite his personality, he cares a lot about his patients, especially those with whom he has formed an emotional bond. He cares to the point of almost relapsing back into his addiction to Vicodin but this is prevented by Cuddy confessing her love for House. He openly and relentlessly mocks colleagues and patients who express any belief in religion, deeming such beliefs as illogical.

The Real Doctor Behind Hugh Laurie's House: Lisa Sanders TIME

House is very reluctant to talk about the incident which damaged his leg and can be easily offended when it is brought up. On one occasion where he told a group of students about the leg injury, (but disguised his identity), he becomes furious when they, like his original doctors, couldn't figure out what was wrong. It's known, however, that during this time he did indeed live in Princeton. About ten years before the series started, House participated in a paintball game pitting doctors against lawyers. One of the lawyers, Stacy Warner, shot House and put him out of the game. He asked her out and, despite her acceptance, the couple's first date was a disaster.

Here's how Thirteen got her name.

In 2012, after a year since House crashed his car into Cuddy's home, he serves his time behind bars at the East New Jersey Correctional Facility under the close watch of the prison warden. However, he seems to have been sentenced unnecessarily hard for a first offense. House states he is going to research dark matter, citing galactic rotation and detection, if he leaves medicine.

That Time The Office Filmed During a Real Earthquake

From the way House treats women, one might expect that his relationship with his mother was troubled. However, House's mother loves him unconditionally, and the reverse is true as well. It was probably this unconditional love that led House to pursue his dreams. However, House realizes that he's a disappointment to his mother because the thing that his mother wants the most is for him to be happy, and he seems incapable of being anything other than miserable. His wish to avoid his father has the unfortunate fallout of taking him away from his mother as well. House's father was a strict disciplinarian, but although his punishments were severe, they were never arbitrary or fuelled by anger.

Hugh Laurie based part of his world-famous character on his own father.

As of June 16, 2009, the show has been aired in more than 60 countries, with 86 million viewers worldwide.[13] In the following list, the number in the first column refers to the episode's number within the entire series. "US viewers in millions" refers to the number of Americans in millions who watched the episode live while it was broadcast or by a few hours later with a digital video recorder. "Ultimately, it’s House making a sacrifice — and yet not making a sacrifice," creator David Shore told Entertainment Weekly at the time. During this season, Cameron starts getting romantically interested in House, but House appears disinterested. Matters are complicated when PPTH gets a new chairman, Edward Vogler, a billionaire holding the hospital a virtual hostage with a donation of $100 million. He takes a dislike to the "hardly working" House and after a series of clashes that result in Cameron resigning, seeks to have him fired.

At the same time that John was overseas, Blythe was also having an affair with Thomas Bell whom House believed was his biological father due to the physical characteristics they share, but this turned out to be false. House's fragmented memories reveal that Amber had gone to lend a ride to a drunken House at a bar on behalf of, but unbeknownst to, Wilson, who was at work at the time. Amber followed him onto the bus in order to give him his cane, which he had forgotten and left behind. The House-Wilson relationship looked as though it may break up anyway as the grieving Wilson questions the validity of House's friendship. House's dysfunctionality is further exhibited when Dominika discovers House has been keeping the news of her citizenship from her, leading to her distrust of him and causing her to angrily move out. However, during House's eulogy in the series finale, Dominika claimed that he "was her husband for real" stating that she couldn't help but love him despite what he did. House and Cuddy met twenty five years ago at the University of Michigan.

Dr. James Wilson is a direct parallel to Holmes’ partner Dr. John Watson. Rebecca Adler, a patient in the pilot, is named after the main antagonist in the Sherlock Holmes novels. And at the end of season 2, House is shot by a man named Jack Moriarty. In the Holmes books, the detective’s arch-nemesis is criminal mastermind James Moriarty.

However, to keep House from going to jail, Wilson refuses to testify and Cuddy perjures herself in court to have the charges against House dismissed. House also "hides" from patients and refuses to meet them; claiming to his staff it helps not to get attached to the patient. However, when he does meet a patient who refuses treatment because of prior misdiagnosis, House is able to empathise with her and reveals the damage to his leg was also caused by misdiagnosis.

Meat Loaf also had a cameo in 2009, and Brandy appeared early on, making an appearance in season 1. How else do you explain doctors' tendency to rely too much on high-tech testing? Just as patients feel better when they're getting scans and blood tests and all these things, I think the doctor has the same response. When you see that a patient is doing badly, a kind of low-level fear comes over a doctor, an anxiety that they're going to miss something. The most important quality in these doctors is that they just know so much.

Laurie was in Namibia at the time filming Flight of the Phoenix when he sent in a self-made and totally improvised audition tape. To add to the authenticity, he filmed the tape in his hotel bathroom because, he said, “It was the only place with enough light.” Talk about dedication. House's ex-girlfriend and possibly the only woman House has ever shown outward emotion for. Although their relationship broke up over House's anger about his disability, it's clear that they are physically, emotionally, and intellectually attracted to each other. Unlike most people, Stacy can see right through House's defensiveness and can often see through his attempts to manipulate her. Most of House's fear of relationships can probably be tracked back to the pain he felt when Stacy walked out of his life.

He is a Board Certified Diagnostician with a double specialty of Infectious Disease and Nephrology. House has also been known to act as a mooch at times, frequently stealing food from Wilson. In "You Don't Want to Know", while House is searching for the cause of Thirteen's twitching, he claims to have stolen money from her wallet.[61] In the same episode, Wilson later observes that House's blood type is AB, the universal recipient, reflecting his desire to take whatever he can.

At the beginning of season seven, Thirteen ostensibly goes away to Rome (it's later revealed that this was actually a lie), leaving a vacancy on House's team. House proposes then, giving a chance to the rest of his team, to hire a new member. After some unsuccessful tries, Cuddy hires Martha M. Masters (Amber Tamblyn), a medical student in the episode "Office Politics".

Voyeur Night Club in Los Angeles

voyeur house lıfe

It’s an on-premise club with parties on Wednesdays, Fridays & Saturdays every week. To be honest, the vibe felt a bit shady here and the staff were pretty unfriendly. Lovely Fate started several years ago, and after going dark for over a year during the height of the pandemic, has emerged bigger and better than ever. Now a monthly party at their West Hollywood venue, they seem to have nailed both the crowd (hot but fun) and the vibe (sexy chic). In addition to the extremely high ticket prices, at the parties that we went to, they encourage you to buy “tokens” at the bar which can be exchanged for play with the ladies.

Ally & Piero morning fun, 17.03.2024

By sleeping in a room elevated off the ground and open to the stars, one might inhabit a deep pocket of silence for a few moments, and perhaps even perceive the movement of the Earth, as it slowly rotates beneath the stars. We have a lot of appreciation that Club Joi exists in LA.  It’s an on-premise club (as in they have their own building and run all of their own events there), and they’ve been doing what they do for a long time. The building is huge (over 12,000 sq feet), with high ceilings, a spacious feel, and all manner of different play equipment and themed areas.

Marla & Hector wake up fun, 16.03.2024

The big-time porn star says Kanye's hit song, "Hey Mama," inspired him, because he wants to buy his mom a house. And, now Girthmasterr wants to pay her back by helping her retire, and a collab with Ye could help. There was once a time when this was the hottest adult party in town, but those days are long gone. It’s true that you’ll still find a lot of cute young ladies here, but the problem is that it seems that many of them are paid to be there and interact with attendees.

Voyeur-house - Jirina and Artura and friends naughty party, Dec05/22

The crowd is pretty good – a decent number of fun & attractive people, with a pretty healthy sprinkling of Burners, ravers and ultra-nerdy types thrown in for good measure. While the parties can be fun, it’s becoming difficult for us to want to go when there are other parties that are even better and significantly less expensive (see above). We sure had fun trying them out on your behalf, and while there are several worthy contenders, our top pick (Lovely Fate) is currently in a class of it’s own.

Voyeur-house - Marica & Wendy & Koen, Orvil and Melly & Damon crazy sex party part I, Sep03/22

Off to the side, and upstairs, are several playrooms – so once you’re settled in and feeling adventurous, you can head off to watch or play amongst all the beautiful debauchery. Because of the nature of their pop-up venues, the space feels a bit cold & costco-esque, owing to the easy-setup canopies and furniture that they use to quickly make a warehouse party-ready. It’s an interesting mix of people, with about an even blend of BDSM types and lifestyle folks. Certainly the only spot in town where you’ll find lifestyle-curious Venice beach girls mixing with kinky yoga teachers and pro-dommes having fun on their night off. The sensations of sleeping and waking are thus inflected by the building's foregrounding of intensified onsite experiential events.

So it’s not hard to see why some people see this as less of a sex party and more of a glamorized high class escort service. Also, there is a decidedly entitled / unfriendly vibe among the attendees (perhaps a byproduct of catering to rich old men), which is why we ended up marking the vibe score lower, despite the elaborate decor. Started out of the Bay Area, they now do events in a number of cities across America & Europe, including Los Angeles.

Their standard MO is to rent a big empty warehouse and then deck it out for a sex-positive party. They have a unique rule of everyone needing to arrive and leave with a “pal” – friends who jointly accountable for each other’s behavior, which provides a check on potential solo predators. But we appreciate the passion they have brought to create this, and we enjoyed dancing along to their DJs in the warehouse vibes.

Amelie & Lucas friends morning couch sex, 17.03.2024

There were some things we liked, like the big Hollywood Hills house & candle-lined staircases. But then other simple things had minimal or no attention, like mood lighting & sexy music throughout. If there is a downside, it’s that the events can seem a bit more about the porn star shows than about the attendees, and as a result many of the folks there seem be more into watching the show than there to meet or play. This seems to have become even more the case as Kinky Rabbit’s reputation has grown and it has kind of become a trendy “naughty thing for rich LA people to say they’ve been to”. The ticket price has been steadily increasing since the first time we attended, and are now up to $1200 per couple (June 2023). Labyrinth started in NYC and has expanded to open a venue in Los Angeles (East Hollywood-area).

Voyeur-house - Mira,Henry,Shana,Jirina,Brody,Marit & friends sexy party,Aug 4,2022

Kinky Rabbit was created by the former creative director from SNCTM, and it offers much of what used to be good about SCTM with a bit less of the pretentiousness. They go all out on their sexy themes, with numerous porn models in elaborate costumes offering tantalizing performances throughout the evening. They do plenty right here, with nice attention to details like lighting and music. The thing we like the most is how welcoming it felt as newcomers – it definitely lived up to their “fun / sexy / kind” tag line. There’s a large social hangout area downstairs where you first walk in, with DJs hitting all the right notes.
